Winner of Cherry Blossom Bracket

We started with 16 cherries – natives, showy blossoms, Tidal Basin residents, and backyard staples.

Y’all narrowed down the competition week after week. The Kwanzan cherry didn’t make it and neither Sweet nor Sour cherries survived. Not even the Yoshino cherry made it to the finals!

The vote came down to the multiple plumes of the Shirofugen Cherry and the structural beauty of the Weeping Cherry.

It was a close contest – 53% to 47% but the winner is...Weeping Cherry! Thank you to each and every one of you that voted in your favorite and provided a much needed March Madness replacement.

You can keep an eye out for cherries on your physically distant walk around the neighborhood or to the grocery store with our Cherry Blossom of D.C. Map. Once the majorities of the cherry trees are done blooming, you can immerse yourself in the beauty of other blooms with our Blooming Trees of D.C. Map.
