More Fall Events

Fall is in full swing! From plantings to workshops, we have a busy season full of different events and classes for you to come find us at. Since the start of our planting season, we’re back with more happenings that will keep you outside and educated on all things’ trees. And be sure to keep your eyes on the calendar for more volunteer opportunities and outdoor experiences throughout the Fall!    

Wednesday 10/19 – Virtual Invasive Removal Workshop 

Join Casey Trees for a virtual workshop all about invasive species in the District. Learn about what invasive species are, why they are detrimental to our environment, and what we can do to prevent or control their pressure. 

PLUS – learn about the specific invasive species present on our conservation easement Hellbender Hill, where we will be holding a volunteer invasive removal event the following Saturday, October 22nd.  

Saturday 10/22 – Community Tree Care: Invasive Removal at Hellbender Hill 

Join us on Hellbender Hill, one of our protected conservation easements, to take down some invasive species! You provide the volunteers, we provide all the necessary tools and supplies to remove invasives and care for trees. Participants will receive a short, hands-on training on site. After learning the tools and techniques, participants will split up into groups and begin working throughout the park. 

Wednesday 11/2 – Meet In Your Park: Fort Stanton 

Have you ever wondered who is responsible for planting and taking care of trees in DC? What about the connection between trees and community health? Are you curious about outdoor events you can attend this fall? Get answers to all these questions and more at our Meet in Your Park events. Chat with us, Casey Trees, an organization working to restore, enhance, and protect the urban tree canopy of Washington, DC. 

Thursday, 11/3 – Invasive Removal at Watts Branch 

Join us at Watts Branch to clean up our green space and take down some invasive species! We will be collecting trash, helping with beaver management, and removing invasive species. Sponsored by Anacostia Parks and Community Collaborative (APACC), DOEE Volunteer Network, Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay, Department of Parks and Recreation, UFA, and Casey Trees. Free lunch provided to all volunteers’ courtesy of APACC! 

Saturday 11/5 – Community Tree Planting at White Friars Hall 

Welcome back to our fall season of Community Tree Plantings! You provide the volunteers, we provide all the necessary tools and supplies to plant the trees. Participants will receive a hands-on training on site. After learning the tools and techniques, participants will be split up into groups supervised by a trained volunteer Team Leader and begin planting trees throughout the park. 

Sunday 11/6 – Palisades Tree Walk with Capital Nature 

Our popular Palisades Tree Walk is returning this fall! Join Casey Trees and Capital Nature for an easy paced, 75-minute tree walk at Palisades Community Center as we appreciate the beauty of trees, the changing leaves, and the crisp fresh air in the height of the fall season. 

Wednesday 11/16 – Environmental Advocacy Workshop 

Join staff from Casey Trees’ Policy & Land Conservation team as we explore what it means to be an advocate for both the environment and your community! You can expect to learn about the structure of the District’s government, the agencies that work on environmental issues here in DC, and how to contact and talk to your Council member through testimony or letters. 

You will be able to practice your writing skills and use what you learn here to advocate for issues that impact your community. Register for our event and help make DC a greener city! 

Wednesday 11/16 – Bark and Beans with Compass Coffee

Take a lunch break with Compass Coffee and Casey trees for a cup of coffee and a tree walk around the neighborhood! Enjoy an easy paced, 45-minute walk to learn about local trees, tree ID, and discuss the need for trees in urban spaces. The official Casey Trees tree species guide will be available as an add-on when you reserve your ticket. Purchase of a guide is not a ticket to the event and is not necessary to participate.

Friday 11/18 – Community Tree Planting at Ferebee Hope Recreation Center – TEAM  

LEADERS ONLY 

A special planting for our Team Leaders, join us at the wonderful Ferebee Hope Recreation Center. You provide the volunteers, we provide all the necessary tools and supplies to plant the trees.  

Saturday 11/19 – Community Tree Planting at Anacostia Skate Park Pavilion – TEAM LEADERS ONLY 

A special planting for our Team Leaders, join us at the Anacostia Skate Park Pavilion. You provide the volunteers, we provide all the necessary tools and supplies to plant the trees.  

Friday 11/25 – #OptOutside Day at Oxon Run Park  

Our organizations invite you to join us in the park and be part of the movement to #OptOutside. This idea started by the outdoor store REI in 2015 by giving their employees the day after Thanksgiving off to encourage getting outside. It has grown to be a movement to make everyone feel welcome outside. Join us for an hour with Sage Raindancer, who will guide us along the park in a forest bathing experience. Stay for another hour of connecting through various nature themed activities.
