It’s no secret that this month is packed to the brim with volunteer events, but don’t get overwhelmed – we’re here with a guide to help you find the events that will suit you perfectly!
If you like learning about critters and the impact they have on natural spaces, Meet Your Neighbors: Buds and Bugs with Bartlett is for you! Perfect for spooky season, join this walk to learn about invasive creepy crawlies, their impact, and the importance of trees in supporting native and beneficial insect species. Topics will include: the emerald ash borer, crape myrtle scale, invasive plants and their relationship with invasive insects, and others. What could be scarier than sick trees?!
If you like when urban areas co-exist with natural spaces, you have to attend the Meet Your Neighbors: Trees On Structures Tour! At this edition of Meet Your Neighbors, we will highlight the Trees on Structure book, the book discusses projects throughout the District that feature different types of trees on structures. From the Kennedy Center, to Earth Day Park, to CityCenterDC, we celebrate the designers and developers who are making waves in green infrastructure, and aim to inspire others to follow in their path.
If you like seeing a visual difference after your volunteer work, join us at our Community Care: Invasive Removal at Hellbender Hill, one of our protected conservation easements, to take down some invasive species! And if you’re interested in diving deeper into what invasive species are, why they are detrimental to our environment, and what we can do to prevent or control their pressure – tune into our Virtual Invasive Removal Workshop before attending the removal.
