Here’s How Many Trees We Planted This Year (and Lots of Other Fun Stuff)

The humidity has set in, we’ve stopped planting and started watering and learning, so that means one thing around here: another planting season is over and it’s summertime! Everything is on the up at Casey Trees, and thanks to our unbelievable team of volunteers and partners, this year smashed all kinds of records:

Overall, we planted over 4,300 (!) trees from July 2018 to June 2019. We weren’t just planting trees though. We engaged over 6,000 (1,600 of them newbies) folks through any of our programs. How did we engage that many people? We’re glad you asked! This past year we held 23 classes (think Intro to Tree ID),  57 Community and School Tree Plantings, 27 Treewises (our summer education program with DPR), 17 Park Inventories, and numerous other events like our Advocacy classes and the Canopy Awards!

This is truly exciting as this is not only the most trees we’ve planted, but more importantly, it’s the most people we’ve ever worked with!

We don’t plant trees, protect Heritage trees, advocate for greenspaces in new developments or create conservation easements for ourselves. We don’t carry out our mission to restore, enhance and protect the tree canopy of the nation’s capital for ourselves. All of our work is for future generations of Washingtonians to enjoy and benefit from. This is why engaging folks is critical – we can’t do this work alone and it takes a village to ensure a green, resilient, equitable future for all 8 Wards and all 713,244 and growing residents.

We need you to be a part of the fun next year! We hold events all summer long (we don’t stop when the planting season does!) and get the inside scoop on planting dates and locations for Fall 2019 when you become a Casey Trees member. Let’s keep the ball rolling!
