Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I find information on donating to Casey Trees?

For information on donating to Casey Trees, see our donation FAQ. If you have any questions, please contact development@caseytrees.org.

Does Casey Trees plant or maintain street trees?

Casey Trees does not maintain street trees (trees planted in the right-of-way street tree box). Though you may see a tag on a street tree indicating it was grown at our farm, and we plant some street trees for the city under contract, any street tree maintenance issues are the jurisdiction of the DDOT Urban Forestry Division. Call 311 or go to the 311 website to request street tree maintenance or to request a street tree planting.

Do you do tree removal?

We may do tree removal if the tree is small, in poor health, and is part of clearing out space for a new tree planting; but in most cases, we do not remove trees. For a list of certified arborists that serve your area, go to goodtreecare.com.

How long does it typically take for Casey Trees to contact me once I fill out the online consultation form?

After requesting a consultation, a Casey Trees staff member will contact you within 3 weeks, though we hope to get in touch sooner than that. To follow up on your planting you can contact the staff member you’ve been in contact with, or email friends@caseytrees.org.

Do you sell, give away, or have tree watering bags available?

We no longer install or sell tree watering bags due to plastic waste. Although slow-release watering bags can help efficiently water trees, trees can be watered sufficiently without the use of watering bags. For tree watering tips, visit caseytrees.org/water.

Does Casey Trees receive funding from the federal government?

In 2023, the USDA Forest Service announced a 1 billion dollar federal investment in trees and green space projects around the country, via Urban and Community Forestry Grants. The grants were made possible through funding from the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act. Casey Trees received a grant award of $9.1 million that is dispersed over a five year period.

The federal funding will be used on tree-focused projects. Specifically, the funding will plant 10,000 new trees, provide pruning and maintenance for 30,000 young trees, sponsor tree plantings at 75 schools, and provide education and outreach to the greater community.

As with all the grants awarded through the federal funding, all funds will flow to underserved communities. This means all of Casey Trees’ work will be centered on the exact communities that need green amenities, resources, and trees the most.

Is Casey Trees an equal opportunity employer and provider?

Casey Trees is an equal opportunity employer and provider, and does not discriminate on the bases of race, color, religion, sex, sexual harassment, age, national origin, marital status, sexual orientation, familial status, disability, limited English proficiency, or because all or a part of an individual’s income is derived from a public assistance program.

Casey Trees receives funding from the USDA, and as such, complies with the USDA’s non-discrimination policies. If you believe you experienced discrimination, you may file a discrimination complaint with the USDA.

Where is Casey Trees headquarters?

Our office at 3030 12th Street NE is a renovated building which we enlarged to accommodate an expanding number of staff, classes and workshops. The site boasts a bioretention planter, three green roofs and a white roof. These “green” features qualified our headquarters to participate in the Sustainable Sites Initiative (SITES) Pilot Program.
