Looking to liven up your yard this summer? Look no further.

On September 6, visit Casey Trees at the DC State Fair to secure your very own FREE serviceberry tree! We will be giving away 50 trees on a first-come, first-served basis, so get there before they’re gone.

ALL ABOUT THE SERVICEBERRY

The serviceberry is a deciduous, native tree, popular for its adaptability, resilience, and—of course—its delicious, edible berries! Also known as a juneberry, the serviceberry can thrive in a variety of soil types, making it a great sustainable option to support our urban canopy.

And what better way to celebrate the artistic, culinary, and agricultural talents of the DC State Fair than by highlighting a tree known for its berries!

The serviceberry is a stunner all year round. In the springtime, the tree boasts lovely white and pink flowers that tend to blossom before most other plants. During late spring and early summer, its clusters of berries ripen to a deep reddish-purple when they’re ready for harvest. By the fall, the serviceberry is marked by its vibrant orange-yellow foliage before dropping its leaves for the winter months.

Serviceberries are ideal for compact environments, making them a great option in urban settings. As an understory tree, they can reach heights of up to 25 feet within 20 to 25 years in full sun or partial shade.

Visit caseytrees.org/serviceberry to learn more about this species of tree.

HOW CAN I GET MY TREE?

Interested in snatching a serviceberry? Simply show up while supplies last!

We will be tabling from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Bryant Street NE (near metrobar) at the DC State Fair. Trees will come in a three-gallon container—a great size for carrying away on foot, in a bike basket, or in a vehicle.

And don’t worry—we will provide information on how to properly plant and care for your new tree.

Each tree planted is another step towards creating a healthier, greener city. Be a part of this positive impact and create a living testament to sustainability in your own backyard (or front yard—up to you to choose!).

And in a few summers from now, taste the fruits of your labor—literally.

We’ll see you there!
