Community Tree Planting: Banneker Recreation Center

Join Casey Trees as we partner with the Washington Wizards and Robinhood Markets Inc. to plant trees at Banneker Recreation Center!

We provide all the necessary tools and supplies to plant the trees. Participants will receive a hands-on training on site. After learning the tools and techniques, participants will be split up into groups supervised by a trained volunteer Team Leader and begin planting trees throughout the space.

Register now! We will send a logistics and directions email with detailed information about how to get to the site. You will receive this email ONLY if you are signed-up for this planting.

What to expect on site:

8:00am – Check in opens

8:00am – 8:30am -Breakfast is served

8:30am – Opening remarks and tool safety demo

9:00am – Planting begins, at which time volunteers will be split into planting teams, each lead by a Team Leader. Each team will plant 2-3 trees.

Getting There

Banneker Recreation Center – located at 2500 Georgia Ave NW Washington, DC 20001

Parking: Parking is available on site on a first come, first serve basis. Overflow parking is available on Georgia Ave NW and 9th ST NW.

Bike Parking: Bikes can be locked to nearby signs.

Public Transportation: The nearest metro bus stop is Georgia Ave NW & Howard Pl NW, served by buses 70 and 79.

Requirements

Register: Register in advance. Anyone not registered online will be registered on site.

Waiver: All volunteers must pre-register and sign a completed volunteer waiver form BEFORE participating in the event. Paper waivers will be available for signing on site.

Clothes: Dress comfortably and appropriately for the weather. We recommend long pants and other protections for sun, bugs and poison ivy.

Shoes: Close toed shoes required, boots are preferred over sneakers.

Skills: No specific skills or tools required. Each event starts with a tool safety and planting demonstration. Volunteers work alongside experienced Team Leaders and staff.

Arrival: Arrive on time. Check-in opens at 8:00am. Volunteers must be present for the tool safety demonstration at the start of the event.

Water: Water will be available on site.

Food: A light breakfast and lunch will be provided to volunteers.

Animals: No animals are allowed into the event, except for service animals.
