When DC’s budget crisis hit this year, many programs faced difficult cuts. Unfortunately, our Nature Near Schools program was among them.
Last school year, Casey Trees and our partners reached 1,200 fourth graders across DC, teaching them about our region’s waterways, parks, and tree canopy. These hands-on outdoor learning experiences don’t just educate — they inspire the next generation of environmental stewards.
But now, we can’t reach as many students who desperately need these experiences.
While DC’s Department of Energy and Environment had to reduce funding due to budget constraints, the need for environmental education hasn’t diminished. In fact, it’s more critical than ever.
That’s where you come in.
We’re working to diversify our funding so we can continue bringing nature-based learning directly to students who need it most—often those with the fewest opportunities to connect with the outdoors.
Your support helps us provide:
- Hands-on environmental education for DC students
- Outdoor learning experiences across city neighborhoods
- Training for tomorrow’s environmental champions
Every dollar makes a difference in keeping these vital programs running. Together, we can ensure today’s students have the tools and passion to care for DC’s environment for generations to come.
