Join us as we Kick-off our Spring Planting Season!

We are just getting warmed up this spring with lots of fun new events throughout April! Join us at one of our many Community Tree Plantings or visit our partners in either removing invasive vines or learning about the wonder of trees. Also, remember that this month features the City Nature Challenge follow the link below to learn how to get involved.

Wednesday, 3/26 – CCAN Invasive Vine Removal: Sligo Creek

Join CCAN and Friends of Sligo Creek to remove Invasive Vines along Sligo Creek in Hyattsville, MD. We will focus on non-native invasive vines including porcelainberry (Ampelopsis glandulosa var. brevipedunculata), English ivy (Hedera helix), and Kudzu (pueraria montana). Native Virginia creeper and poison ivy are also present and beneficial, so we will avoid those.

Saturday, 3/29 – Community Tree Planting: Hamilton Manor Apartments

Welcome to our spring season of Community Tree Plantings! You provide the volunteers, we provide all the necessary tools and supplies to plant the trees. Participants will receive a hands-on training on site. After learning the tools and techniques, participants will be split up into groups supervised by a trained volunteer Team Leader and begin planting trees throughout the site. This planting is presented in partnership with the American Institute of Architects.

Tuesday, 4/1 – ZCAF Wonders of Trees Exhibit Opens

The exhibition of original artwork not only takes the tree as a starting point, but also repurposes arboreal remains like bark, twigs, driftwood, lumber, or tree pulp as the medium. Subjects vary widely. These canvases will spark awareness of the many roles trees play in building a greener and more climate-resilient city for future generations. Attention is given to street beautification, park greenspace, and the selection of different species to best complement the architectural scale and character of distinctive settings.

Friday, 4/4 – Community Tree Planting: Banneker Place Apartments

Join Casey Trees as we partner with the Washington Wizards to plant trees at Banneker Place Apartments! We provide all the necessary tools and supplies to plant the trees. Participants will receive a hands-on training on site. After learning the tools and techniques, participants will be split up into groups supervised by a trained volunteer Team Leader and begin planting trees throughout the space.

Wednesday, 4/9 – CCAN Invasive Vine Removal: Woodlawn Cemetery

Join CCAN to remove Invasive Vines at the historic Woodlawn Cemetery in Washington, DC. We will spend the first 30 minutes doing a brief training on invasive vines and best practices for removal and spend about 2 hours removing vines from the trees. We will focus on non-native invasive vines including porcelainberry (Ampelopsis glandulosa var. brevipedunculata) and English ivy (Hedera helix).

Saturday, 4/12 – Community Tree Planting: West Hyattsville Metro Station

Welcome back to our spring season of Community Tree Plantings! Join us as we plant trees at West Hyattsville Metro Station with WMATA. You provide the volunteers, we provide all the necessary tools and supplies to plant the trees. Participants will receive a hands-on training on site. After learning the tools and techniques, participants will be split up into groups supervised by a trained volunteer Team Leader and begin planting trees throughout the space.

Saturday, 4/12 – CCAN Invasive Vine Removal: Riverside Drive Park

Join CCAN, PG County Parks, and the Riverdale Park Green Team to remove Invasive Vines at Riverside Drive Park in Riverdale Park, MD. We will focus on non-native invasive vines including porcelainberry (Ampelopsis glandulosa var. brevipedunculata) and English ivy (Hedera helix). Please wear long pants, long sleeves, and close-toed shoes. Instructions and tools will be provided, so just bring yourself and a good attitude!

Join CCAN, the Cottage City Green Team, and PG County Parks to remove Invasive Vines at Cottage City Park in Cottage City, MD. We will focus on non-native invasive vines including porcelainberry (Ampelopsis glandulosa var. brevipedunculata) and English ivy (Hedera helix). Please wear long pants, long sleeves, and close-toed shoes. Instructions and tools will be provided, so just bring yourself and a good attitude! Students under the age of 16 MUST be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the event.

Saturday, 4/19 – Hyattsville Arbor Day Celebration and Community Tree Planting: University Hills Duck Pond

Welcome back to our spring season of Community Tree Plantings! Join us as we plant trees at University Hills Duck Pond (Hyattsville, MD) with HITT Construction. You provide the volunteers, we provide all the necessary tools and supplies to plant the trees. Participants will receive a hands-on training on site. After learning the tools and techniques, participants will be split up into groups supervised by a trained volunteer Team Leader and begin planting trees throughout the space.

Saturday, 4/19 – CCAN Invasive Vine Removal and Canvassing: Riverdale Park

Join CCAN and the Riverdale Park Green Team to canvass and remove Invasive Vines around the Riverdale Park neighborhood. This event will be a fun mix of door-to-door canvassing and invasive vine removal. We will meet at Riverside Drive Park and spend 30 minutes doing training on vine removal and canvassing. From there we will break into pairs and head to a list of pre-surveyed residences in the area to offer vine removal for residents.

Friday, 4/25 – 4/28 – City Nature Challenge DC Metro Area

Do you like observing nature? Make your observations count! The City Nature Challenge is an adventure in metropolitan areas worldwide to discover and identify wildlife. We’ll be looking for signs of life in parks, neighborhoods, and backyards to see what plants and animals share our environment. Join the City Nature Challenge and become a citizen scientist!

Saturday, 4/26 – Arbor Day Community Tree Planting: Northwest Parks Apartments

Celebrate Arbor Day with Casey Trees! Join us as we plant trees at Northwest Park Apartments. You provide the volunteers, we provide all the necessary tools and supplies to plant the trees. Participants will receive a hands-on training on site. After learning the tools and techniques, participants will be split up into groups supervised by a trained volunteer Team Leader and begin planting trees throughout the space.

Monday, 4/28- 5/2 – DC Climate Week

DC Climate Week (DCCW) will establish Washington, DC, as the nation’s center of climate innovation by providing opportunities to engage with policymakers, fund climate solutions, and showcase cutting-edge technologies. Through curated workshops, panels, exhibitions, and networking events, we will transform our nation’s capital into a global model for climate action.
