Spring Events are Around the Corner

As spring approaches, the DC area is buzzing with opportunities to connect with nature, advocate for environmental justice, and strengthen our communities. From inspiring conferences and town halls to hands-on tree plantings and educational programs, there’s something for everyone looking to make an impact, join us at these upcoming events and gain the perfect chance to grow your knowledge and deepen your connection to the environment.

Wednesday through Saturday, 3/5 to 3/8 – Taking Nature Black

Join Nature Forward’s Taking Nature Black conference—a powerful gathering celebrating Black leadership, culture, and connections to the environment. This multi-day event features inspiring speakers, panel discussions, and community building, all focused on environmental justice, conservation, and nature experiences through a Black perspective.

Saturday, 3/8 – Rooting DC: A Free Conference for Urban Gardeners

The 18th annual Rooting DC is a FREE, all-day event that provides education and community building around urban agriculture and food systems. Its goal is to cultivate personal, community, and environmental well-being. Rooting DC is the District’s central meeting ground for land stewards and garden lovers to strengthen their connection with crops and the community in the nation’s capital. The Rooting DC program includes interactive workshops on crop production, food preparation/preservation/waste prevention, and agroecology as a source of education and art.

Saturday, 3/8 – Ward 7 EJ Town Hall

Join the Ward 7 Environmental Justice Town Hall as they bring together environmental activists, experts, and elected officials to discuss critical environmental issues affecting Ward 7, including PEPCO power plant clean-up, lead in water, air quality, pollution, and the climate justice crisis. Be part of the conversation and help shape a safer, healthier future for the community.

Saturday, 3/8 – Community Conservation: Invasive Removal at Hellbender Hill

Join us on Hellbender Hill, one of our protected conservation easements, to take down some invasive species! Over the past few years, we have been working towards restoring the greenspace on this protected conservation easement site by pulling and controlling invasive species. Join us to fight the invasive pressure and contribute to this project. You provide the volunteers, we provide all the necessary tools and supplies to remove invasives and care for trees.

Saturday, 3/15 – Driskell Park: Volunteer Tree Care & Tree Maintenance Talk

Attention Hyattsville residents! Help Casey Trees care for young trees! Your help with weeding, mulching and watering these vulnerable trees will give them a leg up in becoming an important part of our growing tree canopy. Also, learn more about tree maintenance and pruning. We provide all the necessary tools and supplies to care for trees.

Saturday, 3/22 – Community Tree Planting: Catholic University of America

Welcome back to our spring season of Community Tree Plantings! Join us as we plant trees at Catholic University of America. This event is sponsored by Latham and Watkins. You provide the volunteers, we provide all the necessary tools and supplies to plant the trees.

Spring 2025 UDC Master Naturalist Program

Love nature and want to make a difference in your community? The DC Master Naturalist Program, led by UDC’s College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability, and Environmental Sciences (CAUSES), offers hands-on training in local ecology, wildlife, and conservation. Join a network of passionate volunteers working to protect and restore DC’s natural environment.
