Time for Tree Care

Start your New Year off right by caring for trees in your community! Join us for our winter tree care season, which features several invasive removals and mulching events throughout DC, including MLK Jr. Day Tree Care and our ongoing Community Conservation series at Langdon Park. Let’s bundle up and check out what the next month holds.

Saturday, 12/21 – Rooted in Nature, Winter Solstice Gathering

Join us for reflective nature time, crafts, tea, and snacks as we thank our trees as they enter the winter months. We will gather on this transition day and acknowledge it as the shortest and darkest day of the year. Learn about the work we do to protect our trees, meet other local partners caring for our nature spaces, gather with the community, and enjoy some downtime before winter begins.

Monday, 1/6 – CCAN Invasive Removal at Wheaton Regional Park

Join Meredith from CCAN and the Montgomery County Weed Warriors to remove Invasive Vines at Long Branch in Silver Spring, MD. The removals will focus on non-native invasive vines, including porcelain berry, English ivy, and Kudzu. Please wear long pants, long sleeves, and close-toed shoes. Instructions and tools will be provided, so just bring yourself and a good attitude!

Saturday, 1/11 – Community Conservation at Langdon Park

Join Casey Trees as we continue our work at Langdon Park to conserve the Forest Patch and care for young trees! Help clip back invasive species, remove vines, add mulch, and protect young trees within the forest patch. After learning the tools and techniques, participants will split up into groups and begin working throughout the park.

Saturday, 1/11 – CCAN Invasive Removal at Takoma DC

Join Meredith from CCAN to canvass and remove Invasive Vines around the Takoma DC neighborhood. This event will be a fun mix of door-to-door canvassing and invasive vine removal. We will meet at the Fort Stevens Rec Center and spend 30 minutes doing training on vine removal and canvassing. From there, we will break into pairs and head to a list of pre-surveyed residences in the area to offer vine removal for residents. If you prefer not to go door-to-door, you can stay at the rec center and work on the trees there.

Wednesday, 1/15 – CCAN Invasive Removal at Birchwood Apartments

Join Meredith from CCAN to remove Invasive Vines at Birchwood at Newton Green Senior Community in Bladensburg, MD. We will meet in the parking lot at 2 PM and work until about 4:30 PM. We will focus on non-native invasive vines, including porcelain berry, English ivy, and Kudzu.

Saturday, 1/18 – Martin Luther King Jr. Day Community Tree Care: Anacostia Park

Join us for Martin Luther King Jr. weekend as Casey Trees teams up with Friends of Anacostia Park for a fun day of service around the Anacostia Skate Park! We will mulch some of the newly planted trees (planted by our volunteers last year!) around the park, and other organizations will conduct various clean-up and service activities around the area.
