October was a whirlwind of activity as we dived into our busy planting season! From Community Tree Plantings, Residential Plantings, and School Tree Plantings to Tree Walks, festivals, and outreach events, Casey Trees has been out in full force, connecting with the community and working with volunteers to add greenery to our beautiful city. Here’s a look back at some highlights from our action-packed month. If you missed any of the fun, there’s still plenty of time to join us in November!

We kicked off our planting season in full swing with an incredible Community Tree Planting at Huntwood Courts! Volunteers from all around the complex joined us, bringing energy and enthusiasm to plant trees that will enhance the neighborhood’s green spaces for years to come. Thanks to our partners, Clean Air Partners, who helped make this event possible, everyone involved got hands-on experience with tree planting while learning about the importance of urban forestry. We’re grateful for the community’s support and the chance to start our season with such a meaningful project!

We started the month at Eckington Day in Alethia Tanner Park, where neighbors enjoyed live music, local vendors, and activities like yoga and even a pet costume parade. It was a wonderful way to connect with familiar faces and new friends, sharing our passion for trees with those who stopped by.

A week later, we were at Hamilton Manor with shovels and saplings for a Community Tree Planting where, in partnership with Clean Air Partners, volunteers eagerly joined us to add trees to this beautiful space. Their enthusiasm was inspiring, and we’re grateful to everyone who lent a hand.

On the same day, we joined the Dreaming Out Loud Festival behind Kelly Miller Middle School for a celebration of community, culture, and spirit. The festival buzzed with energy, and we had a blast handing out free trees and connecting with families, friends, and vendors who shared in the excitement.

Mid-month, we headed to Anacostia Park for another tree planting, this time in collaboration with the Truist Charitable Fund and the Arbor Day Foundation. With our dedicated volunteers, we made a significant impact, planting trees to enrich the park’s canopy.

October continued with a visit to Kingman Island, where we spent a sunny Saturday surrounded by nature. We introduced families to the island’s trails, paddling spots, and even a scavenger hunt. We loved seeing everyone experience the beauty of DC’s green spaces!

Our last weekend of October brought us to Driskell Park in Hyattsville for a special tree walk. Together, we explored the “Right Tree, Right Place” approach, learning about the best spots for different species to thrive.

We rounded out the month with Family Fun Day at Mitchell Park, a festive afternoon filled with pumpkin decorating, a moon bounce, and seasonal treats. It was the perfect end to an active October, spent making new memories and sharing the joy of trees with the community.

We’re grateful to all our volunteers and partners who helped make each event special. If you missed joining us in October, don’t worry! There are still plenty of ways to get outside and plant with us in November. Let’s keep growing our city’s beautiful tree canopy together!
