Grow (and Plant!) with Us This Fall

Our fall season is just getting started, with lots of fun upcoming events this November! Come join us for one of our Community Tree Plantings or one of our many tree walks or talks. We look forward to seeing you this November!

Saturday 10/26 – Hyattsville Tree Walk: Right Tree, Right Place

Join Casey Trees and forester Sam Nelson for a tree-focused walk in Hyattsville’s Driskell Park on Saturday, October 26th. Together, we’ll identify different trees and discuss their histories, relationships, and personalities. We’ll also discuss Right Tree, Right Place, a phrase foresters use when deciding where a tree should be planted to live its best life. Come become a Right Tree Person in the Right Place!

Saturday 10/26 – DC Scores’ Fall Frenzy

Join DC SCORES elementary teams for Fall Frenzy! The annual tournament and community festival for 3rd through 5th graders features 8v8 soccer matches, craft booths, team-building activities, a live DJ, and lunch. Fall Frenzy is one of DC SCORES’ longest-running events and features more than 1,000 young people and their communities.

Sunday, 10/27 – Mitchell Park Family Fun Day

Friends of Mitchell Park is hosting their annual Fall Fun Day on October 27th from 2:30-
5:30 PM! Bring the whole family for a day of pumpkin decorating, moon bounce, balloon animals, a bake sale, a fire truck, and more!

Wednesday, 10/30 – Congressional Cemetery Tree Walk

Join Casey Trees as we partner with Congressional Cemetery for a sunset “Tree Walk Through History.” This tree tour will be co-led by Cene Ketcham, Arborist and Urban Forester, and Sharon Metcalf, Congressional Cemetery & Trowel Garden Club Arboretum Project Coordinator. Tree lovers are invited to stroll through a trail of trees at historic Congressional Cemetery during the peak of autumn’s color. The tour will feature selected old-growth trees, along with two dozen distinct species planted by Casey Trees over the past two decades.

Thursday, 10/31 – Trunk, Treat, and Skate with Friends of Anacostia Park

Join Friends of Anacostia Park for a fun-filled “Trunk, Treat, & Skate” event on October 31 from 5 PM to 8 PM at the Anacostia Park Skating Pavilion. This free, family-friendly celebration features candy, games, prizes, and music! Don’t miss out on the costume contest, starting at 7 PM. Come dressed in your best costume, enjoy skating, and make some spooky memories with your community!

Friday, 11/1 – ZCAF Wonders of Tree Reception

ZCAF’s exhibition “The Wonder of DC Trees” at Zenith Gallery showcases parts of a traveling exhibition funded by Events DC and accompanied by original artworks using tree themes to celebrate DC’s leafy canopy. Included in this exhibition are sculptures, paintings, and mixed media. The exhibition of original artwork not only takes the tree as a starting point but also exploits arboreal remains like bark, twigs, driftwood, lumber, or tree pulp as the medium. Subjects vary widely.

Saturday, 11/2 – Community Tree Planting: University of Maryland 

Welcome to our fall season of Community Tree Plantings! You provide the volunteers, and we provide all the necessary tools and supplies to plant the trees. Participants will receive hands-on training on-site. After learning the tools and techniques, participants will be split up into groups supervised by a trained volunteer Team Leader and begin planting trees throughout the site.

Saturday, 11/9 – Community Tree Planting: Liberty Place Apartments

Join us at Liberty Place Apartments for a community tree planting! You provide the volunteers, and we provide all the necessary tools and supplies to plant the trees. Participants will receive hands-on training on-site. After learning the tools and techniques, participants will be split up into groups supervised by a trained volunteer Team Leader and begin planting trees throughout the site.

Saturday, 11/16 – Community Tree Planting: WMATA Suitland Parkway

This planting is presented in partnership with WMATA. You provide the volunteers, and we provide all the necessary tools and supplies to plant the trees. Participants will receive hands-on training on-site. After learning the tools and techniques, participants will be split up into groups supervised by a trained volunteer Team Leader and begin planting trees throughout the site.

Saturday, 11/16 – Hyattsville Tree Care and Tree Maintenance Talk

Help Casey Trees care for young trees! Your help with weeding, mulching and watering these vulnerable trees will give them a leg up in becoming an important part of our growing tree canopy. Also, learn more about tree maintenance and pruning. We provide all the necessary tools and supplies to care for trees. Participants will receive a short, hands-on training on-site.
