Saturday 8/24 – Oxon Run Day
Looking for a way to get involved in your community and make a positive impact on the environment? Don’t miss the Oxon Run Day and DOEE Resource Fair. This event offers an array of useful resources including educational materials, interactive programming, engaging activities, and exciting giveaways!
Saturday 9/7 – DC State Fair
Come join us at the fair and see who wins the contest for best compost. The DC State Fair is a celebration of all the things that make the District and its residents special. Celebrate the District’s agricultural, culinary, and artistic talents with us!
Wednesday 9/18 – Urban Tree Summit Conference
Join us at the 13th annual Urban Tree Summit (UTS). Conference presentations will focus on the health and welfare of trees in our increasingly developed landscapes. Learn from some of the country’s leading experts about innovative efforts to plant, protect, and preserve trees in urban and suburban settings.
Thursday 9/19 – Urban Tree Summit – Langdon Park Forest Patch Tour
Join the Langdon Park Forest Stewards for an on-site visit of the Langdon Park Forest Patch to learn about Assisted Natural Regeneration (ANR) in action, an alternative approach to planting trees that addresses the factors preventing regeneration so a forest can regrow.
Friday 9/20 – Urban Tree Summit – Prince George’s County Champion Tree Bus Tour
Join Chris Garrett for an exciting tour of Prince George’s County Champion trees. The tour will feature a selection of impressive champion trees, including some of the largest trees on record in the Upper Marlboro area.
Saturday 9/21 – Festival Del Rio Anacostia
Come see Casey Trees and celebrate the Anacostia River at the 9th Annual Festival del Rio Anacostia! Enjoy hands-on activities, crafts, entertainment, delicious food, fishing demos, live animals, and free boat rides and giveaways.
Saturday 9/21 – Hyattsville Family Day
Attention Hyattsville residents! Join us to learn about the importance of trees, receive informational resources, and hands-on engagement for all ages.
Saturday 9/21 – Anacostia Skate Park Care Day
Join our partners at Friends of Anacostia Park to help care for our community greenspace. Activities will include invasive species removal (training provided), trash cleanup, and other projects needed to help keep the park a safe and welcoming place for all.
Tuesday 9/24 – Urban Tree Summit – National Mall Tree Tour
Come learn about the trees along the National Mall in DC’s Monumental Core, some of the most iconic and highly visited landscapes in America. This tour will highlight some of the most significant trees through the eyes of the arborists and urban foresters who care for them.
Thursday 9/26 – Urban Tree Summit – Introduction to Forest Bathing at Brookside Gardens
Join naturalist and Certified Forest Therapy Guide, Ana Ka’ahanui from Capital Nature, for an introduction to forest bathing. “Shinrin-yoku,” or taking in the forest atmosphere with all of your senses, is a way to slow down, unwind, and connect to the natural world. Through a series of simple sensory exercises, we’ll experience the wonders of nature with this relaxing mindfulness practice.
Saturday 9/28 – Anacostia Skate Park Late Skate
Come get your skate on! Join Friends of Anacostia Park, the National Park Service, and our community partners for a day of music, recreation, and kinship in DC’s most storied skating venue.
Monday- Friday, 11/4 – 11/8 – Tree Climbing Academy
Join Casey Trees, Montgomery Parks, and Bartlett Tree Experts to learn how to climb trees! The academy aims to introduce climbing skills and experience to those interested in arboriculture and forestry, or those already in the tree care industry or related field.
