Tree Climbing Academy
Join Casey Trees, Montgomery Parks, and Bartlett Tree Experts to learn how to climb trees! The week-long Tree Climbing Academy will be held at Wheaton Regional Park (2000 Shorefield Rd, Silver Spring, MD 20902) from November 4 – 8, 2024, 8am-4pm daily. The academy aims to introduce climbing skills and experience to those interested in arboriculture and forestry, or those already in the tree care industry or related field.
Over the five days, candidates will be led by expert instructors in safe working concepts, ropes and knots, climbing saddles and equipment, and industry best practices. Candidates will set ropes in trees, ascend vertically, and walk limbs to traverse within the canopy of small and large trees. Upon completion, candidates will receive a Tree Climbing Academy certificate, as well as a $500 stipend.
Who should apply?
Candidates must be at least 18 years old, be able to attend the entirety of the academy, and should have an interest in joining, or furthering a career in, the tree care industry. Preferred candidates are in good physical condition (willing and able to hoist oneself vertically into a tree), demonstrate an excellent attitude, and enjoy physical working tasks.
