Join us for Spring Events!
As the spring season continues, we are excited to share more fun events in the field as we celebrate both Earth Day and Arbor Day this April! Get connected with our urban forest by volunteering at our Community Tree Plantings or joining us at festivals and events throughout the DMV.
Saturday 3/23 – Community Tree Planting: DC Water Brentwood Reservoir
Come join us as we plant trees at Brentwood Reservoir! We provide all the necessary tools and supplies to plant the trees. Participants will receive a hands-on training on site. After learning the tools and techniques, participants will be split up into groups supervised by a trained volunteer Team Leader and begin planting trees throughout the park.
Saturday 3/23 – NPR Science Friday Live Taping
Join Ira Flatow and the rest of the SciFri crew as they hit the road to uncover and report on the amazing science news and stories happening in Washington, DC! This is your chance to peek behind-the-curtain of your favorite national radio show and participate in a special live performance with the experts and conversations you love. Get ready for an evening exploring urban trees, local seafood sustainability, the science of art and object conservation, and more!
Sunday 3/24 – National Cherry Blossom Festival – Oxon Run Pinknic and Kite Fly
Join us at Oxon Run Park in Ward 8 for our annual Oxon Run Pinknic & Kite Fly, presented by Chase on March 24, 2024! We will host kite programming, entertainment, and more in coordination with the Blossom Kite Festival.
Saturday 3/30 – Community Tree Planting: Kelly Miller Park
Join us at Kelly Miller Park to give back to your community! We provide all the necessary tools and supplies to plant the trees. Participants will receive a hands-on training on site. After learning the tools and techniques, participants will be split up into groups supervised by a trained volunteer Team Leader and begin planting trees throughout the park.
Friday 4/5 – Spring Back to Kingman Island: Junior Urban Forester Day
DCPS has the day off, and we are hosting a field trip themed tabling experience! Join your child on a walk with our Junior Urban Forester booklet, which encourages a safe and sensory exploration of Kingman Island. CT staff will be available to answer your wildlife and tree questions.
Saturday 4/6 – Community Tree Planting: Royal Courts Apartments
Join Casey Trees as we plant trees at Royal Courts Apartments! We provide all the necessary tools and supplies to plant the trees. Participants will receive a hands-on training on site. After learning the tools and techniques, participants will be split up into groups supervised by a trained volunteer Team Leader and begin planting trees throughout the space. This planting is presented in partnership with PEPCO.
Thursday 4/11 – Capital Jewish Museum Passover Seder
Join the Capital Jewish Museum for an untraditional seder to remember. They will read from their own community Haggadah (which contains a contribution from Casey Trees), clink glasses over stories old and new, connect over charoset and horseradish, and find inspiration around the table.
Friday 4/12 – Spring Back to Kingman Island: History of Kingman Island Tree Walk
Join Casey Trees and the Kingman Rangers for an easy walk to explore the islands, learn about the history, and some special ecosystems.
Saturday 4/13 – Community Tree Planting: KC Lewis Field
Join Casey Trees in planting trees at K.C. Lewis Field! We provide all the necessary tools and supplies to plant the trees. Participants will receive a hands-on training on site. After learning the tools and techniques, participants will be split up into groups supervised by a trained volunteer Team Leader and begin planting trees throughout the park.
Friday 4/19 – Spring Back to Kingman Island: Earth Day – Invasive Removal and Island Clean Up
Give back to the earth and provide a hand in helping to keep the islands free of trash and invasive species. Join us for easy service time of collecting trash or helping to pull/remove invasive vines to ensure that young trees have a chance to grow. All tools provided.
Saturday 4/20 – Community Tree Planting: Emery Heights Community Center
Join us for a special Earth Day tree planting at Emery Heights Community Center! We provide all the necessary tools and supplies to plant the trees. Participants will receive a hands-on training on site. After learning the tools and techniques, participants will be split up into groups supervised by a trained volunteer Team Leader and begin planting trees throughout the park. This planting is presented in partnership with Latham & Watkins LLP.
Saturday 4/20 – AWS Earth Day Clean Up: Hellbender Hill Invasive Removal
Started by DC native Howard Gassaway of Seafarers Yacht Club in 1985, the annual Anacostia River Earth Day Cleanup is AWS’s largest annual volunteer event, and one of the largest single-day volunteer events in the DMV. This event is a success thanks to all of the amazing community partners and leaders, as well as our corporate and small business sponsors. This year, join thousands of volunteers around the watershed to pick up trash, serve your community, and enjoy the Anacostia River.
Saturday 4/20 – Anacostia Community Museum Earth Day
Join the Smithsonian’s Anacostia Community Museum on Saturday April 20th as we honor and celebrate our Earth! Meet community partners, enjoy family friendly maker activities, and learn more about plant care. This indoor/outdoor event takes place from 10am-5pm at the Anacostia Community Museum.
Monday 4/22 – Community Tree Planting: Gallaudet University
Join us at Gallaudet University as we add trees to the campus! We provide all the necessary tools and supplies to plant the trees. Participants will receive a hands-on training on site. After learning the tools and techniques, participants will be split up into groups supervised by a trained volunteer Team Leader and begin planting trees throughout the park.
Friday 4/26 – Community Tree Planting: Emery Heights Community Center
Join us this Arbor Day as we plant trees at Emery Heights Community Center! We provide all the necessary tools and supplies to plant the trees. Participants will receive a hands-on training on site. After learning the tools and techniques, participants will be split up into groups supervised by a trained volunteer Team Leader and begin planting trees throughout the park. This planting is presented in partnership with Forbright Bank.
Friday 4/26 – Spring Back to Kingman Island: Arbor Day – City Nature Challenge
Learn how to use iNaturalist and join the global City Nature Challenge. Casey Trees staff will have resources to learn how to make a species tag and identify trees on Kingman and Heritage Islands. More information on the challenge can be found here.
Saturday 4/27 – City Nature Challenge Nature Walk at Oxon Run Park
Join Casey Trees during City Nature Challenge with Tree Ambassador Glenn Hall for a Nature Walk at Oxon Run! We’ll start off with an easy-paced tree walk, where Glenn will give an overview of the history of Oxon Run Park and then point out some of the species of trees in the park, and finally go over the importance of green spaces such as Oxon Run Park.
