Tree lovers of all ages joined us last Saturday at Hearst Recreational Center for our Tree Care event where we mulched and watered young trees that were planted by us last fall. While some may opt for brunch over early morning tree care, Ulrich Hewer, a long-time volunteer with Casey Trees loves the opportunity to get outside and appreciate the natural beauty around him in the company of friends.
“On Saturday mornings, yeah you have to get up early, but you’re looking forward to seeing friends who you’ve made over so many years.” said Ulrich. He also shared how rewarding it is for him to see the trees that he’s planted growing and thriving even years later, “It’s the trees and the comradery.”
Here at Casey Trees, we provide a wide range of volunteer opportunities and community events! Some events we’re offering this month include:
- Langdon Park Community Conservation Event – Saturday, July 16, 9 AM
Come take down invasive species with us as part of a new year-long climate resiliency program at Langdon Park, under the District of Columbia Community Stormwater Solutions Grant.
- Meet Your Neighbors: Virtual GIS Talk – Thursday, July 21, 6 PM
Join Casey Trees for the first virtual edition of our Meet Your Neighbors tree walks, where we’ll cover the basics of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and how we use this technology in our Trees Near Me portal.
- Community Tree Care: RFK Stadium – Friday, July 22, 9 AM
- Community Tree Care: St. Thomas More Church – Saturday, July 30, 9 AM
Help Casey Trees care for young trees! Your help with weeding, mulching, and watering these vulnerable trees will give them a leg up in becoming an important part of our growing tree canopy.
