Celebrating The Next Generation

This past week we attended the After-School All-Star Watershed Showcase. Students from Johnson MS and Leckie EC celebrated the conclusion of a six-month project on environmental justice, the importance of supporting the health of our waterways and green spaces, and the importance of community involvement to advocate for a healthy environment everywhere in DC.

We had met this amazing group of young scholars back in April for a care event at Oxon Run and they put in WORK!

We were excited to see the kids out of their work clothes and dressed up to celebrate their successful program. The students presented their final projects for the watershed showcase and we loved what we saw. From how to make an impact in the community, to the importance of water quality, they truly learned all about how to make a difference, and that they did!

We were honored to play a small role alongside Friends of Oxon Run, DC Water, Park Rx America, DC Audubon Society, Concerned Citizens for DC, Ward 8 Woods, the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay, DDOT Urban Forestry Division, Career Path DC, and the Department of Parks and Recreation. Huge shout out to After-School All-Stars – we can’t wait for next season!
