Tree Climber 🤝 Beloved Eaglet

Nothing gets DC going quiet like the various animal cams around town. From the pandas to the eagles we take pride in our shared viewing of the animal kingdom milestones. This past week our latest addition, Eaglet DC9, (the ninth eaglet to hatch in the US National Arboretum Tulip Poplar nest – not DC music venue) had a little check-up done by none other than Jim Campbell-Spickler. Jim, a trained and certified climber, approached the tree using rope access and modern arborist-style techniques.

Jim Campbell-Spickler scaled the 80-foot Tulip Poplar tree where Lotus and Mr. President had made their nest. The tulip tree is actually the tallest deciduous tree in North America, and it is the only species of its genus on this continent. The tulip tree is also one of our fastest-growing trees here in the DC region and is known for its beautiful greenish-yellow with orange flowers.

DC9 is the first successful offspring for Lotus and Mr. President, and all eagles are deemed healthy by Jim Campbell- Spickler!

Join us for a very special and exclusive Tree Walk at the US National Arboretum  (home of DC9). This event will be an easy-paced, tree appreciation, and full moon walk.

We will cover about 3 miles in two hours, during which we will share stories of trees on the grounds of the arboretum and the rich history of the space while waiting for the moon to rise (and possibly sneak a peek of our new baby eagle and his parents).
