THE LEAFLET

We need YOU to speak for the trees!

The DC Council will soon vote on B24-444, the Urban Forest Preservation Authority Amendment Act, or UFPAAA. This bill would strengthen protections for DC’s largest – Special and Heritage Trees.

Casey Trees strongly supports this bill! Over the past two years, more than 50 Heritage Trees have been illegally cut down. Moreover, recent analyses show that DC tree canopy dropped from 38% to 37% – a loss of over 550 acres of trees. While the city and its partners continue to plant thousands of trees each year, the loss of existing, mature trees is far outpacing planting efforts aimed at compensating for their loss.

This is where you can help: We need your voice to encourage Council to pass the UFPAAA. If you live in DC  follow the link to instructions on how you can lend your voice of support by either signing on to a pre-written letter, or – by crafting a personalized letter all your own. Either way, your voice is essential if we are to save DC’s precious tree canopy to ensure a greener, healthier city for generations to come.
