Tree Rainbow: White Blooms

You know the cereal marketing slogan, “Taste the Rainbow”? Well we’re taking a separate approach here at Casey Trees and will show you the rainbow. The rainbow of trees’ spring blooms that is! Each of the trees we’ll highlight are available for free through our residential programs. So whether you prefer bold red, sunny yellow, or classic pinks, trees offer something for everything:

A hardy ornamental shade tree that is adaptable to a wide range of conditions, the yellowwood has beautiful pea-like flowers and showy seedpods that ripen in the fall. It is surprising that it has not been more popular, as the Yellowwood combines the best traits of a number of other trees. Like an ornamental wisteria, the Yellowwood’s white flowers are borne in long stunning chains, beginning around May or June. Like the Hickory tree, Yellowwood’s leaves are large and impressive with a compound structure and turn a lovely yellow in the fall. Like the American Beech, Yellowwood’s bark remains smooth with an appealing lighter gray color. Not bad for a single tree, eh? This tree is available through our residential planting program, RiverSmart Homes. You can also get up to $100 back for planting this tree yourself through our tree rebate program.

A showy medium-sized shade tree is often known as “cigar trees,” catalpas are typically planted for its springtime show of large, white, orchid-shaped flowers from which develop slender, long green seedpods that darken and drop in fall. At home in most soils and moisture regimes, the catalpa is a tough urban tree. Catalpas will thrive in full sun to partial shade and may attain 40 feet in height in 30 to 50 years. This tree is available through our residential planting program, RiverSmart Homes. You can also get up to $100 back for planting this tree yourself through our tree rebate program.
