Farewell to Dr. Jessica Sanders

It is with a mix of sadness and gratitude that we announce Dr. Jessica Sanders is departing from Casey Trees. Since 2012, Jessica has played a key role in the development of our core programs, relationships, and activities.

Starting as Director of Technical Services and Research, Jessica focused on creating platforms and programs to gather urban canopy data, research, and partnerships. Her community involvement, volunteerism, and passion for science-based action helped us grow from a separate research and design department to an innovative, collaborative team that utilizes data, ideas, and advocacy to effect change.

Jessica cultivated and grew the staff of the Science and Policy department into a team that manages our robust Park Inventory Program, annual Tree Report Card, conservation easements program, advocacy team, develops legislation, and works with developers citywide. Some highs have included the landmark Tree Protection Amendment Act, to ensure trees DC’s future is green and lush, our annual conference with Montgomery County, and creating our Conservation Easement Program. Additionally, Jessica has tracked our steady progress toward the attainment of the District’s 40% tree canopy goal

But goals and numbers aside, we’re forever thankful for the connections and relationships Jess helped us forge over the years. Join us in wishing Jess all the best in her future position as Executive Director of Sacramento Tree Foundation.
