A Look Back at the Fun

As we continue to prep for our annual Arbor Day Eve bash celebrating our city’s tree heroes – the Canopy Awards – we couldn’t help taking a look back at all the fun we’ve had over the years. All inclusive Early Bird tickets for this year’s Canopy Awards are on sale for another week. Get your ticket before the price increases!

Honey I shrunk D.C.! We brought every ward in the City of Trees to Dock5 last year for the Fifth Annual Canopy Awards. Between a Nationals speed pitch, dancing tunes from Crush Funk, and celebrating D.C.’s canopy, the night was packed to the brim with good fun and great people.

We went down the rabbit hole and into the canopy for the Fourth Annual Canopy Awards in 2017. There were life sized cherry trees, drummers from Batala, wishes for our city’s future, and tasty morsels from Shake Shack, Right Proper, and Republic Restoratives. The whimsical, colorful, and lively atmosphere at Blind Whino didn’t hurt either.

Balloon artists! Caricatures! Pop-up musicians! Lawn games! These may be things you find in a park – or at Dock5 when we transported guests to a giant park for the Third Annual Canopy Awards in 2016. We were thrilled to honor all our honorees, but honoring Councilmember Cheh for her work on the Tree Canopy Protection Amendment Act of 2016 was extra special.

For the Second Annual Canopy Awards, we took everyone back to their childhood at Camp Casey Trees! We had a great timing honoring our award winners while we bid on legendary silent auction items, goofing off in the photobooth, and making friendship bracelets for our fellow tree nerds.

Finally, five years ago in 2014, our dream of hosting a fun and festive fundraiser that not only supports the future of our urban forestry work but also showcases the work of other bettering D.C.’s trees became a reality. The inaugural Canopy Awards featured putt putt, dancing, and endless cheer. It’s no wonder we wanted to keep a good thing going!

The Canopy Awards is made possible by generous financial and in-kind contributions from our sponsors.
