Team Leader Training Class

Do you love trees and want to play a greater role in increasing the District’s canopy cover? Join us to become a Casey Trees Team Leader at our community tree plantings!

Community Tree Plantings: The foundation for a tree’s health and longevity is established the day it is planted. As a Tree Planting Team Leader, you will learn how to prepare a tree planting site and properly plant a tree to ensure its survival, as well as the techniques critical to maintaining tree health, including mulching and watering.

What is a Team Leader? Our Team Leaders play a vital role in our Community Tree Plantings. Team Leaders lead teams of 3-5 volunteers at our events that happen throughout the spring, summer, and fall. You will be responsible for: (1) Safety of the team, (2) Executing proper techniques taught in the Team Leader Training, and of course, (3) Ensuring that your team is having a great time!

Process for Becoming a Team Leader:

Tree Planting Virtual Training – Thursday, October 24th (6:30-8pm)

– Thursday, October 24th: Virtual Class dedicated to reviewing the expectations and benefits of being a Team Leader, mechanics of planting a tree, how to manage volunteers, and safety protocols.

Take the Team Leader Training Quiz

– Potential Team Leaders must get a 100% on the Team Leader Training Quiz within 48 hours to get access to upcoming events for in person training.

Attend Three CTP Events as a Team Leader Candidate.

– After you take the class, volunteer at three CTP events within 12 months under the guidance of a staff and experienced team leaders. Pass with flying colors from your mentor and we will graduate you to a full-fledged Team Leader!

Who Should Attend?

Open to anyone who has attended multiple CTPs in the past 12 months and is interested in supporting our nation’s capital by leading volunteers to successfully plant and manage our city’s trees! After you are a certified Team Leader, we ask that you attend at least 1 planting per season.

Requirements

• Registration. We require that you pre-register for our events, so that we can track all incoming Team Leaders
• Please note you must be over 18 years of age to become a team leader.
• No specific skills required. We will teach you the skills necessary to planting a tree.
• Arrive on time.
• Have a positive attitude and love for trees!
