Washington, DC was quite literally designed to be a City of Trees. When Pierre Charles L’Enfant designed the capital in 1791, he built in room for nature, drawing wide diagonal avenues, generous public squares, and landscaped strips along every road and in every neighborhood.

And for over 200 years, DC’s trees have been doing quiet, essential work: cooling our blocks, cleaning our air, filtering our water, and making the nation’s capital one of the most livable cities in America.

To celebrate our city’s green legacy, we’ve plastered it on buses and metro stops all over the city now through June. Our goal is to remind DC residents that we are The City of Trees — and our mission is to keep it that way.
