THE LEAFLET
Autumn at the Casey Tree Farm
Last Thursday, we visited the Casey Trees Farm in Berryville, VA, to check out the latest developments and see the hard work that goes into preparing trees for their new homes in DC. It was a chilly fall morning at the farm, and our dedicated farm crew was out digging into the cool soil, preparing to plant new trees that will eventually grow to be harvested.
Nearby, another team worked diligently to finish a newly planted field, installing a trench and irrigation line to ensure future growth. This infrastructure is essential for providing the newly planted trees with the best possible start and helping them thrive as they grow into beautiful additions to the urban forest.
As the sun crept higher, we watched freshly dug trees being carefully loaded onto trucks, ready for delivery to DC. It was a delight to see where our trees’ journey begins and witness the care and passion that our team puts into every step of their growth.
With the arrival of fall, our team has been gearing up for our busiest planting season yet! As we prepare to finish this year having planted over 7,000 trees at the homes, schools, and parks of the DMV – our Farm crew was busy installing new nursery bags, pruning trees planted last spring, preparing the fields for new plantings, and sending off thousands of trees to our headquarters in DC. It’s always a time of renewal and growth, and we were excited to see the work being done to support DC’s urban forest.
We’re proud of the progress our team made and the dedication that drove every project at the Casey Trees Farm. Seeing the origins of these trees firsthand highlighted the importance of this work, as the farm continues to play a vital role in promoting sustainability and environmental stewardship.
Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to sharing more updates with you as we move into this exciting new season. We hope you enjoy these scenic snapshots from the farm!
