Looking Back at Spring

As May comes to an end, so does our spring tree planting season here at Casey Trees. With almost 3500 newly planted trees across the DMV’s parks, schools, and homes this spring – we’re excited to begin the essential work of caring for and watering trees throughout the summer. But first, let’s take a look back at our successful planting season!

We closed out our spring planting season with 3460 new trees in the ground! And just as we prioritize planting in areas that need it most, we also work to plant trees that will provide the most benefits over time. This means planting large native trees that not only provide relieving shade, but also lower temperatures, mitigate stormwater runoff, and combat climate change. Long story short – We love big trees!

Thanks to a renewed regional focus and IRA funding, we were able to expand our stomping grounds to plant over 1000 trees in Maryland and Virginia. This exciting opportunity allows us to expand our reach and re-tree areas in need surrounding the nation’s capital. Many of these IRA-supported locations include schools; the impact of these plantings goes beyond providing shade, but also instills a love for the environment in young students to carry with them forever. In total, our team planted 198 trees on various campuses across DC, Maryland, and Virginia.

Another highlight of the season is our community tree plantings. Throughout spring, we engaged 972 volunteers across 13 events to plant 511 trees. These impressive numbers are truly a testament to our dedicated volunteers, team leaders, and Casey Trees staff who work together to make it happen. Rain or shine, these passionate individuals come together to enhance their local greenspaces with trees that will go on to provide shade for generations to come.

Thank you to everyone who planted with us this season, your city’s trees thank you! We’ll be back with more community tree planting opportunities in the fall. If you’re looking for ways to get outside with us this summer, join us at our first care event of the season this Saturday at Langon Park, or keep your eye out for our other upcoming events!
