Welcome back to the leafy spectacle of Phenology February, where every twist and turn in the journey unfolds a captivating arboreal narrative. As we step into the lush arena of Round 3, it’s time to rekindle the excitement of this unique odyssey and celebrate the thrilling matchups that have kept us rooted in our tree-loving enthusiasm.

If you’re new here, Phenology February marks Casey Trees’ inaugural tree competition. Drawing inspiration from March Madness and other iconic battles, this month-long celebration beckons tree enthusiasts to revel in the enchantment of nature. In the recent arboreal skirmishes of Round 2, the competition soared to new heights, delivering unexpected victories that left the tree-loving community abuzz with excitement.

In a fierce bout between Southern Magnolia and Bald Cypress, the contenders battled valiantly. The Southern Magnolia emerged victorious, securing its place at the top with a triumphant 53% of the votes. The tight race highlighted the passionate following for both majestic trees, making this matchup a memorable chapter in Phenology February history.

Surprising all, the Tulip Poplar faced off against the delicate Yoshino Cherry and emerged as the unexpected champion. Tulip Poplar triumphed with a decisive 60% to 40% victory, showcasing its unique charm and resonating with voters in a way that defied expectations. Perhaps it’s the public’s love for this large shade tree with its distinctive, beautiful flower, that paved its way to victory.

In the spirited clash between Red Maple and American Sycamore, the spirit of patriotism prevailed. American Sycamore emerged as the frontrunner, claiming victory with a notable 53% of the votes. This matchup was a testament to the deep-seated connection between trees and the sentiments they evoke.

Lastly, in a duel of botanical resilience, the Northern Catalpa valiantly confronted the American Elm. Despite a strong effort from the Northern Catalpa, American Elm emerged triumphant with 60% of the votes. The outcome underlines the diverse appeal of these remarkable trees, each with their own unique allure.
