March Events are Around the Corner

Spring is right around the corner, and we are so excited to see you back out in the field! Join us at our Community Tree Plantings this March to get your hands dirty and make a difference in our urban forest. Or, find us at festivals and events all around the city as the weather warms up and we head outdoors to enjoy.

Saturday 2/17 – Sunday 3/4 – Kennedy Center REACH to FOREST Tree Display at Improvs for Trees

REACH to FOREST explores the symbiotic relationship between forests and the human world with two weeks of free programs, films, art installations, conversations, and more. This year, the Kennedy Center will explore the beauty and the challenges of the changing and sometimes disappearing forests and their inhabitants as well as the relevance they have to our lives and our planet. The two-week festival will include thought-provoking events by prominent American and international artists, renowned authors, thinkers, conservationists, filmmakers, musicians, tree hunters, and scientists.

Sunday 2/25 – Kennedy Center REACH to FOREST Youth Forest Day

Join the US Forest Service for hands-on craft activities such as coloring a leaf rubbing, crafting your own prose with a Poet-Tree pamphlet, and exploring forestry related career trunks including making your own career card. All 4th grade students visiting the festival will also be eligible to receive a free Every Kid Outdoors pass to enjoy America’s natural wonders and the great outdoors.

Thursday 3/7 – Community Tree Planting: Banneker Recreation Center CTP with the Washington Wizards

Welcome back to our spring season of Community Tree Plantings! Join Casey Trees as we partner with the Washington Wizards and Robinhood Markets Inc. to plant trees at Banneker Recreation Center! Named for Benjamin Banneker, a free African American who assisted in the survey of boundaries of the original District of Columba in 1791. We’ll provide all the necessary tools and supplies to plant the trees. Participants will receive a hands-on training on site. After learning the tools and techniques, participants will be split up into groups supervised by a trained volunteer Team Leader and begin planting trees throughout the space.

Thursday 3/7 – Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay Wild and Scenic Film Festival

The Wild & Scenic Film Festival brings together incredible selections of films that inform, inspire, and ignite solutions and possibilities to restore the earth and human communities while creating a positive future for the next generation. Festival-goers can expect to see award-winning films about nature, community activism, adventure, conservation, water, energy and climate change, wildlife, environmental justice, agriculture, Native American, and indigenous cultures.

Saturday 3/9 – Rooting DC

Rooting DC is the District’s central meeting ground for individuals and entities looking to expand urban gardening efforts to grow a healthier food system in the nation’s capital. This annual, day-long event started in 2007 as a small gathering of 150 urban gardeners and has grown into an annual event with hundreds of attendees and local experts from across the region. This year’s event is in-person and includes educational workshops, networking space, and valuable community building where local food-systems stakeholders share their knowledge and learn from one another.

Saturday 3/9 – Community Tree Planting: Armed Forces Retirement Home

Join us at Armed Forces Retirement Home for a community tree planting! You provide the volunteers, we provide all the necessary tools and supplies to plant the trees. Participants will receive a hands-on training on site. After learning the tools and techniques, participants will be split up into groups supervised by a trained volunteer Team Leader and begin planting trees throughout the park.

Saturday 3/16 – Community Tree Planting: National United Methodist Church

Join Casey Trees in planting trees at National United Methodist Church! You provide the volunteers, we provide all the necessary tools and supplies to plant the trees. Participants will receive a hands-on training on site. After learning the tools and techniques, participants will be split up into groups supervised by a trained volunteer Team Leader and begin planting trees throughout the park.

Saturday 3/23 – Community Tree Planting: DC Water Brentwood Reservoir

Come join us as we plant trees at Brentwood Reservoir! You provide the volunteers, we provide all the necessary tools and supplies to plant the trees. Participants will receive a hands-on training on site. After learning the tools and techniques, participants will be split up into groups supervised by a trained volunteer Team Leader and begin planting trees throughout the park.

Sunday 3/24 – National Cherry Blossom Festival – Oxon Run Pinknic and Kite Fly

Join the National Cherry Blossom Festivities at Oxon Run Park in Ward 8 for the annual Oxon Run Pinknic & Kite Fly, presented by Chase with support from Corner Water, on March 24, 2024! There will be kite programming, entertainment, and more in coordination with the Blossom Kite Festival.

Join us at Kelly Miller Park for a community tree planting! You provide the volunteers, we provide all the necessary tools and supplies to plant the trees. Participants will receive a hands-on training on site. After learning the tools and techniques, participants will be split up into groups supervised by a trained volunteer Team Leader and begin planting trees throughout the park.
