Saturday, 8/26 – Oxon Run Day

Come out for a fun family day with Friends of Oxon Run and Valley Avenue for this year’s Community Day Health and Wellness Fair, “Oxon Run Day”. Join us for a day of fun, community, and celebration of the important role we all can play in creating a healthier environment and lifestyle.

Saturday, 9/2 – Mount Olivet Cemetery Tree Care

Help Casey Trees care for young trees! Your help with weeding, mulching, and watering these vulnerable trees will give them a leg up in becoming an important part of our growing tree canopy. You provide the volunteers, we provide all the necessary tools and supplies to care for trees. Participants will receive a short, hands-on training on site. After learning the tools and techniques, participants will split up into groups and begin caring for trees throughout the park.

Sunday 9/10 – Captial Jewish Museum Block Party

Join us for a grand opening celebration of the Capital Jewish Museum with a neighborhood block party! Kick off the High Holidays with live music and workshops from local band Minnush, pop-up programs and social justice activities hosted by community partners, wares by artisans & makers, food trucks, a beer & wine garden, and more!

Wednesday, 9/13 – Urban Tree Summit Virtual Session

Montgomery Parks (Montgomery County, MD) and Casey Trees (Washington, DC) present the 12th annual Urban Tree Summit. Presentations will focus on the contributions that diverse areas of study and different organizations with disparate missions are making to the field of urban forestry.

Thursday, 9/14 – Urban Tree Summit – Arlington National Cemetery Tree Tour

On this tour, you will learn about the cemetery’s Memorial Arboretum, a Level III Accredited Arboretum. You will also gain insight into the urban forestry program, extensive tree collection, and State Champion trees – as well as ANC’s overall Horticulture program and the techniques used to create the cemetery’s breathtaking formal and informal landscapes and gardens.

Friday, 9/15 – Urban Tree Summit – Capitol Grounds Tree Tour

Explore Fredrick Law Olmsted’s landscape design for the nation’s capital. Led by experts from the Architect of the Capitol’s Capitol Grounds and Arboretum, the tour will include highlights of the historic landscape and infrastructure across Capitol Hill, including more than 4,800 trees that comprise the campus’ urban forest and Level 3 ArbNet-accredited arboretum. Explore the fifty-eight acres of Capitol Square, including more than one-hundred varieties of trees and shrubs many with historic, memorial, or commemorative associations.

Friday 9/15 – Urban Tree Summit – Montgomery County Champion Tree Tour

Join Joe Howard and Carole Bergmann for an exciting tour of Montgomery County Champion trees. The tour will feature a selection of impressive champion trees, some of which grow on county historical sites. Participants will travel by van from location to location to view these champion trees. Lunch will be provided.

Saturday, 9/16 – Tree Walk and Forest Bathing at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens

Join Casey Trees and the Friends of Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens for a joint Tree Walk and Forest Bathing session as a part of WELLderness (An Outdoor Wellness Series). After our tree ID walk, we’ll decompress and further connect with nature through a guided forest-bathing experience led by Sage, a certified forest bathing guide. Forest bathing is the act of immersing yourself in nature in order to experience its unique benefits, including reduced stress and improved mental health.

Saturday, 9/23 – National Public Lands Day Tree Care and Invasive Removal at Fort DuPont

Join Casey Trees as we partner with the National Capitol Parks East and National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF) for the 29th annual National Public Lands Day. NEEF’s National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest single-day volunteer event for public lands. Established in 1994 and held annually on the fourth Saturday in September, this celebration brings out thousands of volunteers to help restore and improve public lands around the country.

Wednesday, 9/27 – Festival Del Rio Anacostia

Festival del Rio Anacostia is an annual event held at the Anacostia Waterfront Park in Bladensburg, Maryland. Their main goal is to improve the well-being of Latino Residents of the Anacostia Watershed through environmental engagement.
