As Land Conservation Month draws to a close, it is a time for us to reflect on the importance of protecting and preserving our precious green spaces. From urban parks to sprawling forests, these natural havens provide immeasurable benefits to our communities and the environment.
Last Sunday, we celebrated our beautiful greenspaces and brought awareness to land conservation at Hellbender Brewing – with Tree Tours, Tree-via (Tree based trivia!), Live Music, Raffles & Games, and more! We also unveiled an exclusive seasonal beer, “Fruit for Thought” Serviceberry Saison, brewed with berries picked from local Serviceberry trees. Proceeds from this beer went towards supporting Casey Trees’ efforts to restore, enhance, and protect DC’s tree canopy.

Washington, DC is developing at a rapid pace with a growing population expected to close in on 1 million people by the year 2045. Our changing urban landscape means accommodating developments but often comes at the cost of mature trees and open green space. Sustainable development not only requires creative energy and material use, but also creative design to incorporate existing green infrastructure. For more information, read our FAQ.
As we conclude Land Conservation Month, let us remember that our natural spaces are more than just beautiful landscapes—they are integral to our well-being and the health of our planet. Here at Casey Trees, we understand the environmental value that land holds and our conservation easements protect greenspaces not just today, but in perpetuity.
We encourage everyone to embrace the spirit of land conservation by getting involved in various ways. Whether through donating land, nominating a green space, attending our upcoming advocacy brown bag, or contributing to Casey Trees’ mission, each of us has the power to make a lasting impact.
