Spring has sprung and we are looking forward to going outside with you to plant trees, care for trees, and learn about our urban forest!

We’ve got a month full of excitement, with Earth Day and Arbor Day to celebrate. Join us outside to get your hands dirty at one of our Community Tree Plantings, or learn from experts at our Capitol Grounds Tree Walk, or our RFK sustainable development walk. However you’d like to get involved, there’s something for everyone. We hope to see you out in the field!

Saturday 3/25 – Community Tree Planting: Glenncrest

This community tree planting at Glenncrest HOA is sponsored by a TD Green Space Grant from the Arbor Day Foundation. Funded by TD Bank Group, this grant supports innovative urban greening and tree planting projects in pursuit of environmental equity. With heat waves becoming more frequent, vulnerable populations need sufficient tree canopy and dedicated green space to curb the impact of the urban heat island effect and increase climate resiliency throughout their neighborhoods.

Saturday 4/8 – Community Tree Planting: Mount Olivet Cemetery

You provide the volunteers, we provide all the necessary tools and supplies to plant the trees. Participants will receive a hands-on training on site. After learning the tools and techniques, participants will be split up into groups supervised by a trained volunteer Team Leader and begin planting trees throughout the park.

Monday 4/10 – Washington Capitals Earth Day Game

Casey Trees and The Washington Capitals invite you to celebrate Earth Day with us during our game against the New York Islanders on April 10th at 7pm! $5 from each ticket sold will support the planting and care of trees in the most needed areas of the city such as Fort Dupont and Anacostia Parks.

Saturday 4/15 – Sustainable Development Tree walk at Reservation 13

Join Casey Trees for a light one hour walk to highlight sustainable development within the neighborhood context. Reservation 13 is one of the last remaining large-scale waterfront developments in the District and this will be a unique opportunity to see the completion of Phase 1 and discuss the future for the remaining parcels. Attendees will walk from Congressional Cemetery along 19th Street to the Reservation 13 development site. We will discuss current development trends and what elements are most important when considering river health, neighborhood cohesiveness and walkability.

Saturday 4/22 – AWS Earth Day: Invasive Removal at Hellbender Hill

The Anacostia Watershed Society’s Earth Day Cleanup is AWS’s largest annual volunteer event. Join nearly thousands of volunteers as they go out to dozens of different sites around the watershed to pick-up trash, serve their communities, and enjoy the Anacostia River.

Friday 4/28 – Arbor Day! Community Tree Planting: Takoma Recreation Center

Join us on Arbor Day for an extra special community tree planting! You provide the volunteers, we provide all the necessary tools and supplies to plant the trees.
