Our Summer Youth Program, TreeWise, is Back in Person and in Spanish

The cicadas are buzzing. The days are long. And our TreeWise Summer Youth Program is back for in-person programs!

This year marks our 11th summer of the Junior Urban Forester summer youth program. Over the years, we have engaged hundreds of District elementary-school aged children in place-based, nature learning. Our goal is to provide DC’s youth with an engaging outdoor experience…and to hopefully give them new reasons to love trees as much as we do at Casey Trees.

The TreeWise program explores topics of urban forestry and stewardship. Our curriculum introduces young learners to tree biology, tree care, and ecosystem services. Campers are encouraged to explore nature near them, and enjoy what makes the outdoors special at their nearby park. Our activity booklet accompanies each lesson-be it with us in-person or on your own as a family-and includes learning goals from DC Public Schools!

We are excited to return to hosting youth in-person this summer, and appreciate the opportunity to also offer virtual experiences and self-guided options for families or pods.

Want to get in on the fun and learning with your family? Our TreeWise Junior Urban Forester Kits are now available in English and Spanish, thanks to our friends at Defensores de la Cuenca. The Junior Urban Forester kit includes an activity booklet for your favorite youth, a set of crayons, a tree cookie necklace to decorate, and a special Casey Trees Swag item.

All those who buy our Junior Urban Forester Kit will receive an exclusive invitation to our Livestream STEM Tuneup on Friday, July 30

This year, we are thrilled to continue our partnership with the District’s Department of Parks and Recreation, working with their Discovery Camps as an Enhancement program. You may also see our Youth Programs Coordinator working at one of our partner sites. This year, we also have a special partnership with our friends at the Urban Adventure Squad, who will help us train new Junior Urban Foresters at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens and the Washington Youth Garden.

We can’t wait to see you outside!
