We’re Partnering with the Anacostia Watershed Society for a Backyard BioBlitz

Help Casey Trees and the Anacostia Watershed Society document our local tree species at this year’s Bioblitz on September 24!

How many different tree species inhabit the Anacostia Watershed? We’re teaming up with the Anacostia Watershed Society to explore and share tree observations near Benning Stoddert Recreation Center and in Fort Chaplin Park. This is a great opportunity to work alongside arborists, citizen scientists and other volunteers as we build the data base that informs biodiversity scientists. All you need is a mobile device and an enthusiasm to look closely at the natural world around you. We’ll have every else (including snacks!) handy.

Participants will receive a short, hands on training on site. After familiarizing themselves with iNaturalist, a simple app used to record observations, we’ll then break off to record as many species as possible.  Register here and get ready to I.D. trees!
