GZEP Program Exposes Kids to Nature
One of the things Casey Trees does is work with partner organizations to educate stakeholders about D.C.’s trees and the value of a robust urban forest.
We recently partnered with DOEE’s Green Zone Environmental Program (GZEP) to do just that.
GZEP is a program originally started as a part of the Marion Barry Summer Youth Employment Program, providing 300 youth and young adults, ages 14-24, with an opportunity to learn about energy and environmental issues.
Participants of the program also help complete community-based environmental work such as installing rain gardens and storm drain makers, prepare for careers, or when they work for us — help care for newly-planted trees.
GZEP partnered with us for 13 Wednesdays at 10 sites across the District.
Two weeks ago we caught up with them caring for some of our newly-planted trees. Here are some select shots of them in action:

Thank you to everyone in GZEP for helping to preserve D.C.’s trees!
