Mission
Restore, enhance, and protect the tree canopy of the nation’s capital.
Plant
We offer tree planting solutions for homes, schools, parks, businesses, and more. Our certified arborists ensure the health, growth, and longevity of every tree we plant.
Objective
Helping communities meet tree canopy goals (40% canopy by 2032 in DC; 50% canopy for the DC greater metropolitan area)
Why it matters
Trees help address two of the most important issues facing our city—warming temperatures and social inequality.

Conserve
We protect lands prized for their ecological, scenic, recreational and natural resources. Our focus is on revitalizing fragmented urban forests, enhancing urban ecosystems and public health, and preserving green spaces for community enjoyment. We partner with local landowners to steward these green spaces and maximize their potential.
Objective
Protect uniquely special lands forever.
Why it matters
Conserving land strengthens local communities and ensures a healthy future for the next generation.
Advocate
For over 20 years, we have championed policies that support and protect Washington, DC’s urban forest. Our efforts have resulted in some of the strongest tree protections among major cities. While progress has been made, our work is far from over. Together, we can show that a greener DC is a healthier DC for all.
Objective
Support legislation and funding that plants, maintains, and protects trees in communities
Why it matters
The greatest threat to the urban tree canopy is development and the imbalance of green and grey infrastructure. Without advocacy for sustainable solutions and tree protections, our communities will only lose more green space.

Educate
We help ignite adults and kids’ love for trees. Through engaging school programs, tree-planting events, and outdoor exploration, we empower young minds to understand the incredible benefits trees offer our city.
Objective
Our mission is to inspire the next generation of tree guardians.
Why it matters
Environmental education often transforms into productive civic engagement.
Care
We inspect, prune, and care for trees to increase their strength and longevity. We contract to care for trees we plant in public spaces, to ensure they establish well and grow to maturity.
Objective
Keep our Capital region’s trees healthy.
Why it matters
Caring for trees while they are young ensures they grow to be strong, mature trees that bring the greatest benefits to our communities.
