Starting at the main entrance to Kingman & Heritage Islands, we’ll see and learn to identify the diverse tree species on the island while we make our way to the boat dock. Once on the boat, we will explore the ecological and historical changes in the river and the communities around it.
The entire tour should take around 3 hours. In the case of light rain, we will proceed as planned. However, in the case of heavy rain, lightning, or strong winds, the event will be canceled, and refunds will be issued.
Meeting Location: At 3:00 PM, we will meet at the main entrance to the island on the riverside of Parking Lot 6, adjacent to the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail. Meet at the Kingman Island sign. See map below. The address is 575 Oklahoma Ave NE.
Getting There: The park is accessible by bike, car, and public transportation. Parking is available at the RFK parking lot. The nearest Metro station is Stadium-Armory (Blue, Orange, and Silver lines), which is about a 20-minute walk away.
What to Wear/Bring: We recommend wearing sunscreen and a hat and bringing water in a reusable water bottle(s). Please wear weather-appropriate clothing.
Restrooms: Restrooms are available at the boat dock.
Youth Attendees: Youth attendees may participate with an adult present. However, the content is designed for adults and may not be appropriate for youth.
Animals: Please no animals, except for service animals.
