Sponsor a Tree

Now through the end of 2026, Casey Trees is organizing an ambitious campaign to raise $125,000 to plant 250 native and historic trees across historic federal parks in the nation’s capital. In partnership with National Capital Parks-East (NACE), a unit of the National Park Service, this is an opportunity to carry on our natural heritage in honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States this year.

With a $500 donation to Casey Trees, you can fund one professionally planted tree and receive a certificate showing your tree’s species and location. You can sponsor as many trees as you’d like! Your tree(s) will be marked on our interactive online map (coming soon!) with your name or the name of a loved one, so you can find it and watch it grow.

No matter how much you can give, your donation helps restore the parks we know and love.

Growing Our Shared Canopy

Trees have always been a central part of our nation’s history, but in DC, they are woven into our identity.

Right now, anyone can sponsor a tree at the Frederick Douglass National Historic Site and along the Pennsylvania Avenue corridor in Southeast, with additional planting sites to be determined in the coming months. When a park reaches its tree goal, we will stop accepting donations for that location and redirect any excess funds to parks in need of support.

Each $500 sponsorship funds:
  • The sourcing of the tree, with most coming from Casey Tree Farm in Berryville, Virginia.
  • Professional planting of one tree, referencing historical maps. Tree species include Willow Oak, Red Maple, and Black Gum, among others.
  • Two years of tree care, including watering, mulching, and structural pruning, which is essential for a young tree’s survival.

If you are unable to sponsor a tree, good news: Any amount you contribute supports this campaign and helps us plant all 250 trees in national parks managed by National Capital Parks – East.

Questions?

Check out some frequently asked questions below, or send an email to development@caseytrees.org.

Is my donation tax deductible?

Casey Trees is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization and your donation is tax-deductible within the guidelines of U.S. law. To claim a donation as a deduction on your U.S. taxes, please keep your email donation receipt as your official record. We’ll send it to you upon successful completion of your donation.

Can I select a specific tree to sponsor?

While donors are able to choose a specific park to plant a tree, we are unable to offer specific tree species or specific tree placement within the park. The species and specific location within the park will follow the planting plan set forth by the National Park Service (NPS).

Can I dedicate a tree to a friend or loved one?

Yes! When you donate, you have the option to dedicate a donation in honor of your friend or loved one and receive a certificate with their name on it.

How many trees will be planted and where?

Beginning in Spring 2026, 37 trees will be planted at Lincoln Park, 19 trees at Stanton Park, 11 trees at Marion Park, and 13 trees at Folger Park. The remaining 170 trees will be planted in other NACE parks to be determined in 2026.

What species of trees will be planted?

The tree species being planted are native and historic to the parks, and include Willow Oak, Red Maple, Jefferson Elm, and Black Gum, among others.

How can I support the campaign if I am not able to sponsor a tree?

The good news is that we welcome support in many forms! While sponsoring a tree is wonderful, we appreciate donations of any amount through this page – every dollar helps us reach our goal of planting native and historic trees in national parks managed by National Capital Parks – East.

How will donations be allocated across the different parks?

We’re planting 250 trees across multiple parks at $500 per tree, which covers everything from growing the sapling to planting and maintaining it for two years. Lincoln Park needs $18,500 for 37 trees, Stanton Park $9,500 for 19 trees, Marion Park $6,500 for 13 trees, and Folger Park $5,500 for 11 trees. When a park reaches its goal, we’ll stop accepting donations for that location and redirect any excess funds to parks still needing support.

How does a government shutdown affect this campaign?

A shutdown may temporarily delay tree planting but not fundraising. As an official National Park Service partner, Casey Trees can continue collecting donations during the shutdown. All funds would be held securely until the government reopens. Your donation remains safe and will be used as intended—a shutdown may simply shift planting timelines, not our commitment to the project.
