Bringing Trees Home to the DMV

A growing body of research has proven something that, anecdotally, many of us already know- in nature, trees form communities with one another and rely on those networks for their health and well-being. The same is also true for the people that make up our Casey Trees community, from our dedicated staff and volunteers to our donors and partners. All our efforts are connected and vital to re-treeing the nation’s capital.

To get a single tree from its start on our farm in Berryville, VA to its forever home requires untold time, labor, and funding from so many along the way. At the offset of the journey is our farm, where the crew prepare the land for young trees that are planted and then nurtured over the next two to three years, setting them up for the best chance of success.

While the trees are growing at the farm, staff meet with residents, government officials, and others throughout the DMV to identify suitable planting locations at parks, residential sites, and elsewhere. Then, each spring and fall our crew undertake the all-important process of moving the developed trees from the farm and planting them at their “forever homes.” This is the heart of what we do and the culmination of the efforts of so many to increase the tree canopy for the benefit of communities throughout the region.

In 2024, our network of staff, partners, and volunteers planted over 7,000 trees! Your donation today will help ensure that we plant and maintain even more trees in 2025.

None of us can go it alone, not even the trees. That’s why we need your support now more than ever. Can we count on you to be part of our community, sustaining our work for the year ahead?

Wishing you health, happiness, and connection in the seasons ahead.

With Gratitude,
