This past weekend, Casey Trees had the honor of participating in DC’s annual Pride 5K, hosted by DC Front Runners, an event that perfectly encapsulates the spirit of community, inclusivity, and advocacy. The Pride 5K is always a highlight of the year, bringing together a vibrant and diverse crowd to celebrate LGBTQ+ rights and unity, and this year was no exception.

The event took place on a gorgeous, sunny day at Congressional Cemetary, one of our popular CTP locations and home to hundreds of our trees! The atmosphere was electric, with participants donning their most colorful attire and waving Pride flags high, the space was filled with laughter, cheers, and a sense of belonging. As advocates for both social and environmental equity, we at Casey Trees were thrilled to be part of this celebration.

It was a particularly special day for us, as several of our dedicated employees ran in the race! Seeing our team members lace up their running shoes and participate in the run was truly heartwarming. It was wonderful to be there, not only to support our coworkers in their personal achievements but to also stand in solidarity with the larger community.

We had the pleasure of engaging with many participants, sharing information about the importance of urban forestry and the numerous benefits that trees provide. The enthusiasm and support we received reaffirmed our belief that environmental and social justice are deeply interconnected. From improving air quality to enhancing mental well-being, trees play a crucial role in urban life. We also emphasized how everyone, regardless of their background, has the right to enjoy the benefits of a green and healthy environment.

As the day came to a close, it was clear that the Pride 5K had once again succeeded in fostering a sense of unity and celebration. We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this wonderful event and to stand alongside so many passionate advocates for equality and social justice.
