Arbor week is here! As we approach Arbor Day Eve, the excitement is building for the highly anticipated 2024 Canopy Awards. This spectacular event isn’t just another gathering; it’s our chance to honor those dedicated to preserving and enriching our city’s tree canopy, all while celebrating the spirit of Arbor Day.
The Canopy Awards are more than just a ceremony; they symbolize the connections within our community, and those within it working to restore, enhance, and protect our Capital’s trees. Just like the intricate network of roots that support a mighty tree, our connections with one another sustain and strengthen us. This year’s theme, “Rooted Connections,” encapsulates the essence of our shared journey towards a greener, more vibrant future.

But wait, there’s more! On Arbor Day, we’re not just stopping with the Canopy Awards. We’re thrilled to announce the release of our 16th annual Tree Report Card, a comprehensive look at the state of our urban forests and the progress we’ve made together. To guide our efforts and those of our partners, each year we publish a Tree Report Card that measures progress toward achieving the District’s 40% tree canopy goal as well as the health and condition of DC’s trees. What will this year’s Tree Report Card tell us? Stay tuned to find out.
