Earlier this month, we partnered with the Washington Wizards to promote environmental awareness through their amazing Green Night Game, where a portion of ticket sales went to assist with tree planting efforts in the DMV. Well our collab didn’t end there – Last week, we linked up with the Wizards once more to host a community tree planting at Royal Courts Apartments!
The day was filled with excitement and love for our District’s favorite trees as volunteers came together from the Washington Wizards, Coca-Cola Consolidated, Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation, and Royal Courts Apartments to plant 25 young Cherry trees in the complex. Trees that will provide beauty and shade to the residents of Royal Courts for decades to come!
The Wizards came through to make the planting a party, with DJ Heat providing great music and Dave Johnson being the most entertaining MC there is, volunteers were able to speed through the tree planting like professionals! We also had the pleasure of planting with some Wizards icons like Gheorghe Muresan and Harvey Grant.
As the day went on, more community members like Phil Chenier, Delon Wright, Daniel Gafford, John Thompson III, and Ward 8 Councilmember Trayon White Sr. joined us to celebrate the new life added to the complex. Even G Wiz came out to play! After planting was finished, volunteers were able to celebrate the ribbon-cutting for these new cherry trees with ice cream floats brought to us by Goodies Ice Cream and Cherry Coke from Coca-Cola Consolidated.
