Here at Casey Trees, we take pride in our versatility and ability to form partnerships and make connections with a wide variety of different people and organizations. Recently we began a collaboration with Joe’s Movement Emporium through a tree planting grant they were awarded through Chesapeake Bay Trust.
Joe’s Movement Emporium is an arts hub that inspires creativity through cultural experiences supporting arts education, job training, and a creative community. Through their job training program, known as the Stream Team, we were able to educate and introduce the trainees to urban forestry information and data, review ecosystem services and get into specifics on Right Tree, Right Place.
Additionally, we were able to show them how we care for trees in the long run as well as provide insight towards working in green jobs and what the day to day might entail.
Following the training, we also assisted the Stream Team with a community tree planting in the natural area of Cheverly’s Boyd Park. The park is up against a forested area that recently lost several acres of trees due to a construction project, so it was really impactful that we got to support and supplement the adjacent canopy. The planting went wonderfully! It was drizzling all morning, but nothing our team couldn’t handle. While there, we were able to give some hands-on training to their four members on some of the best practices for tree planting. They were amazing students and workers. Together, we planted 30 trees total – 15 in Boyd Park and 15 as nearby street trees.
