#OptOutside Day

Instead of spending Black Friday chasing deals, our organization invites you to join us at Oxon Run and be part of the movement to #OptOutside!

#OptOutside Day was started by the outdoor store REI in 2015 when they gave their employees the day after Thanksgiving off in hopes of encouraging them to get outside and embrace the natural world around them. This gave workers the chance to focus on their physical and mental health on Black Friday, a commerce holiday that is normally known to cause retail employees huge amounts of stress. It has since grown to be a movement that makes everyone feel comfortable and welcomed outside.

Join us for a family-fun day in Oxon Run Park filled with outdoor inspired educational activities created with the goal of helping everyone feel welcomed outside. Other activities include an hour with Sage Raindancer, who will guide us along the park in a forest bathing experience – as well as another hour of connecting through various nature themed activities.

A huge thank you to our Partners – Friends of Oxon Run, Raindancer Healing Arts, Capital Nature, DC’s Department of Parks and Recreation, Anacostia Parks & Community Collaborative (APACC), UDC Master Naturalists.
