It’s a whole new world for our annual flagship event. Last year we didn’t get to celebrate and this year we’re shaking things up while keeping things safe. We’re expanding our traditional awards event, the Canopy Awards, into a tremendous CanopyFest and celebrating our canopy and its heroes with friends and partners all month long. 

Instead of limiting the celebration to Arbor Day itself, we’re celebrating our urban canopy and the people that restore, enhance, and protect it all month long. This will culminate with Arbor Day Delivered, a three-course meal and merch pack in partnership with our friends at Little Sesame.

So what else do we have in store for our month-long celebration of trees?

Friday, April 30 | Arbor Day Delivered| The piece de resistance of our Arbor Month festivities is our curated, one-of-a-kind three-course meal by Little Sesame. Ordering will be live the first month of April AND you won’t just getting a delicious meal with this ticket, you’re getting a swag pack that you’ll want to explore all the green spaces in DC with. 

Friday, April 30 | Canopy Award Winners Announcement | Your meal ticket will also get you access to our exciting honoree announcement where you’ll hear more from our tree heroes that dedicate their time, talent, and energy towards city trees.

April and May | Casey Trees Tree Walks | While planting and other volunteer activities are still a no-go in the ongoing pandemic, things are looking up and the weather is getting better and better each day. Join us for a safe, distanced, COVID-friendly tree walk with our knowledgeable staff. Better yet? Bring your newly purchased Species Guide to enrich your experience! (more on that guide below).

All Month Long | Swag Pack | Don’t live within Little Sesame’s delivery distance? Still want to support our mission and tree heroes? You can buy just the swag pack and picnic in style wherever you are.

All Month Long | Species Guide | We’ve updated one of the most popular Casey Trees resources to be even more user-friendly and informative! Get ready to purchase a one-stop guide to identifying trees in the Washington, DC area. 

Friday, April 23 | Poe-Tree Contest Submission Deadline | Do you love trees? Help us celebrate 2021 Arbor Day through poetry. DDOT’s Urban Forestry Division is launching DC’s first-ever all-ages Poe-Tree Contest. Any style will do, the only requirement is that all poems are original work AND highlight a benefit that trees provide. Prizes include a tree planting at a school or park of your choice, a recycled urban wood bench installed at a school or park of your choice, and a pop-up arboretum at the DPR park of your choice. Runner-up prizes for each category include tree cookies made from recycled city trees. All poetry must be submitted by April 23rd to be eligible for prizes.
