The past six months have been challenging to say the least. Countless businesses and organizations of all kinds have closed or drastically shifted how they operate – including us here at Casey Trees.
Casey Trees’ flagship events have been temporarily suspended, including our Community Tree Plantings, Inventories, and of course, our much anticipated and always sold-out Canopy Awards. So… instead, on this Labor Day, we felt it fitting to let you get to know the dedicated employees who continue to carry out our mission without the help of our volunteers – the staff of Casey Trees!
Trees are an essential part of city life. Without the dedication and hard work of our Tree Planting Crew, Urban Foresters, Tree Nursery staff, and everyone in between, we wouldn’t have been able to continue to restore, enhance, and protect DC’s trees in this pandemic.
Thanks to our team’s hard work, we watered 24,743 trees in DC this summer! One particular day we watered an astounding 1,478 trees during the record-breaking July temperatures. Additionally, our Science and Policy Team inventoried 11,472 trees for Survival Study!
Like many, we have adapted to the times, we have a face mask at all times policy, in the office, shop, truck, and field. Each person uses their own tools every day, and we sanitize at the end of each shift. We have staggered start times so that we minimize cross over among crew. Additionally, the new procedures and digital adaptions across our org have shifted our operation to paperless!
And thanks to our updated and closely followed safety protocols, we’re planning a fall planting season with over 1600 trees!
While we miss our volunteers something wicked! There are still ways to carry out our mission. Looking to make a difference in your urban forest? We’re hiring for an Urban Forester! If you’re able, considering donating or becoming a Casey Trees member to support our work.
