Counting Our Blessings – Spring Inventory Update
Counting trees in D.C. is critical. It gives us a idea of the health, composition, and size of our trees. Our inventories throughout parks and recreation centers in the District happen throughout the spring and summer, since it’s too hot to plant trees! So how has the spring/summer inventory season been going?
Our volunteers have been busy! We’ve managed to inventory 1,177 trees at 10 locations throughout D.C., including eight parks, one campus, and once recreation center. We’ve had 187 volunteers dedicate 545 hours to help tackle our ultimate goal of inventorying every tree in D.C. parks! We’re also incredibly lucky and have had four arborists from the Urban Forestry Division join us as partners as we measure and study our city’s trees. Check out some photos below and enjoy the full scoop on our Flickr page.

The temperature can’t hold us down! We have four inventories left, including one in the heart of downtown D.C. – MacPherson Square. See you out there!
