THE LEAFLET
Tree Canopy Protection Amendment Act of 2015
D.C.’s trees need you!
These are the final few days for D.C. residents to sign this letter to your Councilmember and the Mayor. Please sign and pass this along, every signature can make a difference!
If enacted, the Act would update the Urban Forest Preservation Act of 2002 and expand the role of the Urban Forestry Administration (currently limited to planting street trees), allowing it to plant trees on D.C. schools and parks.
Casey Trees proposed these changes to the legislation on the October 2nd hearing:
- Lowering the minimum size of Special Trees, now at 55 inches, to 40 inches.
- Close the tree maintenance loophole to prevent Tree Fund money being spent on tree removal
- Specifying that Tree Fund money may be used to plant trees on both public and private lands
