The Earth Below Us: Soil 101

March 6 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm UTC-5

Free

Do you find yourself wondering about the universe below our feet? Casey Trees and DC’s Department of Parks and Recreation are pleased to bring you the “Dirt” on Soil!

This class will dive into the physical properties of soil. You will learn how to determine soil texture, how soils are classified and indicator species growing above the ground that reveal insights into soil conditions.

Participants will have an opportunity to apply this knowledge at the Casey Trees’ Community Tree Planting at Turkey Thicket on March 23rd from 9am-12pm, followed by classifying the soil at Turkey Thicket from 12:30-1:30.

Getting There
Lamond-Riggs Library is a 0.3mi walk from the Fort Totten Metro. The E4 bus stops around the corner from the Library and there is a small library parking lot.

Instructors
Gabrielle Rovegno, Community Education Coordinator at Casey Trees

Who Should Attend?
Anyone interested in learning more about the soil environment!

Meals

All attendees will be provided with a light meal. Please note your dietary preferences and/or allergies when registering so we can attempt to accommodate your needs.
