Park Inventory: Turkey Thicket Recreation Center
November 4 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm ESTFree
If you love trees, science and discovering new parks, this is the event for you! Come put your tree skills to the test and take in some fresh air with fellow nature enthusiasts at our last inventory of 2019!
Participants will receive a short, hands-on training on-site. After learning the tools and techniques, participants will split into groups and begin assessing trees. We will document tree species, height, trunk diameter, crown width, overall health, and more.
Who Should Attend?
Open to the general public, you do not need any prior experience to join us. If you have participated in any CT classes, this will be a great way to put your knowledge into action!
We will plan to conduct the inventory rain, shine or with frosty temperatures so please wear appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes for walking short distances. Participants are welcome to bring water and light snacks.
Public Transportation: The closest Metro station is Brookland and is a .4 mile walk from the site. The H1, H2, H3, H4, and H8 buses all stop in proximity.
Parking: A small parking lot is available on site. Street parking is also available on 10th St NE.
Bike Parking: Bikes can be locked to a bike rack next to the Recreation center or next to Brookland Middle School.
Where to Meet
Be on the lookout for the green and white Casey Trees table near the entrance of the Recreation Center. Participants will be emailed a detailed map closer to the inventory date.
